March Scripture Journaling Plan: Mark 16 - Luke 21

I can’t believe the month of March is here already! Spring will be here before we know it but we probably have one more snowstorm to get through. Sorry, somebody had to say it.

However, regardless of the weather, I’m excited to start the book of Luke and here’s why. As many of you know, we’re currently in the season of Lent, one of my favorite times of the year and one of my favorite times in the church calendar. One thing I usually do is follow the events of Jesus’s life during the week that ended with the cross, known as Holy Week.

I like to plan my Bible reading to match what happened each of the days from Palm Sunday to Easter morning. Because we decided to work our way through the New Testament this year I had resigned myself to the fact that it probably wouldn’t line up and I’d just have to read it on my own. BUT, as I was getting the calendar together this afternoon, much to my delight, we will be reading the events of Holy Week at the appropriate time! Only God could do that and finding this out just made my day, hopefully it gets you a little excited too.

Are you enjoying the gospels so far? I’m trying to take my time, especially with the parables, there’s just so much there! This past month what really grabbed my heart was one little verse toward the end of chapter 7.  Mark 7: 37 says: “Everything he does is wonderful. He even makes the deaf to hear and gives speech to those who cannot speak.” I felt the conviction of going after Jesus for what he can do for me instead of for who he is. For using him as a means to an end rather than seeing him as the end, the great and glorious end! I had to sit with that one verse for a bit and I have been trying to approach him differently because of it.

My prayer is that you also are feeling the weight of conviction as you read, that’s what Lent is really all about, preparing our hearts for the good news of Easter. Even though this isn’t a Lent plan per se, the gospels are full of opportunities to look inward and evaluate our relationship with Jesus. As we do that we also see the magnitude of his love for us in the way he made a provision for us to come face to face with God the Father, flawlessly clothed in his own righteousness. Is there anything at all that’s better than that?

Blessings,

Susie
