Hi Friends,
So, I have to ask, how’s it going? We are just about through the four gospels and I have to admit, it’s a lot! I mentioned before how easy I’m finding it to fall behind and the reason is that so much of what we’re reading just can’t be rushed through. Full disclosure, I’m still only on May 21 as I write this. But again, isn’t it so worth the effort and the time?
Largely what I want to do today is encourage you, please don’t give up! If you need to just read without journaling for a few days ( or weeks ) in order to get caught up, that’s ok, do what you need to do, just don’t quit, you’ll be so glad you stuck with it!
I’m also really excited that we get into the book of Acts this month. My church just finished an in depth study of the book of Acts and I’m really excited to revisit this pivotal book. Repetition is never a waste when it comes to bible reading. Every time we re-read we have the opportunity to gain deeper understanding of the text.
In my devotional reading last week I came across something I’d like to share with you. As you’re reading you may feel the question arise, “how do I make what I’m reading real in my life?” I think that’s always a struggle, how do I obey Jesus’ commands and teachings in my day to day life in America in 2026? Here’s a suggestion, “when reading a gospel/biblical command, write out one action step and try to carry it out that same day.” By doing this you will be forced to meditate on the text, and by thinking of an action step you will have to contemplate the application of the text in your daily life, or in a particular situation. By doing this you will be actively engaging with the word rather than passively reading. Because honestly, what good is reading if it doesn’t lead to transformed hearts and lives?
I’m praying for you as we journey through this together and am grateful for each of you.
In Christ,
Susie
