Advent Day 6

Joel 2:32

Romans 10:9-13

To call upon the name of the Lord is so much more than a prayer. It’s the cry of my heart after my eyes have been truly opened to see my sin in all of its ugliness. This cry often comes only after I have tried to save myself and come up short yet again. It’s desperate and based on a  shred of hope, but the good news is, it’s met with a guarantee: “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13)!

This verse doesn't say that everyone who calls will be taken into consideration or that everyone who calls will have their past reviewed first. There are no qualifiers; this is amazing grace in action. Here is the promise that “while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

The entire reason Jesus left heaven to be born fully human, to live a sinless, perfect life here on earth, and then to die the most horrific and unjust death in history, was so that my sin could be covered in His Righteousness. Because of this, my cry is met with His salvation.
